One of the most exciting parts of my job is selling a debut series.  That excitement ramps up to eleven (call back to Spinal Tap) when the first book in that series actually releases!  Thus, I’m VERY pleased today to introduce you to CONSPIRACY OF ANGELS, Book #1 in Michelle Belanger’s awesome Shadowside series.  Name ring a bell?  You might know Michelle from her from her regular appearances on Paranormal StateShe’s also been featured in numerous programs on HBO, the History Channel, CNN Headline News, etc., about the paranormal world and the modern vampire community to which she belongs and is well known for her non-fiction such as The Psychic Energy Codex and The Dictionary of Demons.

Conspiracy of Angels CONSPIRACY OF ANGELS by Michelle Belanger (Titan Books)

“In Conspiracy of Angels, Michelle Belanger presents a gripping fantasy of angels, demons, and awesome powers. Belanger’s incredibly detailed imagery instantly immerses you in the angelic earth that she has created.”Mugglenet

Cover copy:

When Zachary Westland regains consciousness on the winter shores of Lake Erie, his memories are gone. All he has are chaotic visions of violence and death… and a business card for Club Heaven. There Zack finds the six-foot-six transexual decimus known as Saliriel, and begins to learn what has happened.
Alarming details emerge, of angelic tribes trapped on Earth and struggling in the wake of the Blood Wars. Anakim, Nephilim, Gibburim, and Rephaim—there has been an uneasy peace for centuries, but the truce is at an end.

With the help of his “sibling” Remiel and Lilianna, the lady of beasts, Zack must stem the bloodshed before it cannot be stopped. Yet if he dies again, it may be for the final time.

I’m also excited that my new novel, BLOOD HUNT, releases today from Samhain, especially since I get to pull Egyptian mythology into this one!   I’ve been lucky to have so many people helping me spread the word.  You can check out some special posts here:

Fame is no longer the name of the game…it’s survival.

Tori Karacis is back in L.A., relieved to once again match her passport photo thanks to a tattoo that controls her gargoyle-esque wings. Her newest case doesn’t involve gods or an impending apocalypse. It does, however, involve murder.

Jessica Roland’s suspicions began when her brothers returned from Egypt eerily different. The terror kicked in with the ritualistic murder of her parents. Her real brothers would never have done such a thing, yet their guilt seems indisputable. What could it be? Curse of the Pharaohs? Some kind of brain-eating bacteria?

At the scene of a second attack, there’s evidence it’s the work of Set, the god of chaos, who should have been locked away a long time ago. And hello, there’s a new arrival. Neith, a warrior goddess who’s got the hots for Tori’s ex, Nick Armani.

Tori should be cool with that. After all, she’s involved with Apollo-that Apollo. Still, it’s a bit much for Neith to ask for seduction advice! Meanwhile, Set is gaining strength, chaos is leaking all over the place, and L.A. is a powder keg set to blow.

Warning: Relationships heat up and danger mounts. Prepare for chills, thrills and kills when Chaos makes its Hollywood debut.

Crazy busy today because it’s a Monday and that’s how I roll, but wanted to jump on quickly to say that the very first book in the Latter-Day Olympians series, BAD BLOOD, is available everywhere now until the end of the month for just $0.99 in the digital editions!  (And Trickster Blood, the prequel story, is still free!)  If you want to check them out, links are below:

Here are the kinds of crazy things that run through my head. I was going to say “a writer’s head,” but then I’d be implying that all writers share my insanity.

This past weekend I was at a get-together, talking to the adults gathered about how I’m still plotting out my next Latter-Day Olympians novel. I had, I said, some idea of the basics, but I didn’t know who my bad guy or girl was yet, and that informed everything—motivation, action, storyline…

“Make it a guy with an eye patch!” said one of the boys running around the pool. Soooo…now I have Odin skulking around in the back of my head, set to the tune of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal…but instead of Annie, we’re now asking repeatedly, “Odin, are you okay? Are you okay, Odin?” to about the point where he wants to slap us senseless. Which doesn’t even make any sense, because based on the song, he’d be the victim rather than the villain.

Aaannnd, this is why the demented little DJ in my head doesn’t get to write my books. Still, I can’t quite shake the thought. Who knows what will come of it. (Incidentally, this same boy wants to be written into some future story as a fire-man (think Human Torch) with burn scars over part of his body…which has to be big, strong, and well-muscled, of course. One friend wants to be a hunter with a loyal dog—he also specified muscles—and the other wants to be an ice-man who can shoot ice out of his pores. So, there you have it. What singer claimed to know what boys want? Well, so do I, and I don’t think we’re talking about the same things.)

BattleForTheBlood300 Holy stream of consciousness, Batman. I supposed I’d better wrestle this blog post back under control. So, I’m not really here to talk about the next Latter-Day Olympians novel knocking around in my head—which will likely be out of arc and from Hermes’s POV, because he insists—but to tell you all how excited I am that the fourth book in the series, BATTLE FOR THE BLOOD, comes out tomorrow in print! I hope you’ll run out and order it, though I’ll understand if you need to get caught up first! The series runs BAD BLOOD, CRAZY IN THE BLOOD, my short story The Parlor in the anthology KICKING IT, RISE OF THE BLOOD and then, of course, BATTLE FOR THE BLOOD.

TricksterBlood300 My prequel story, Trickster Blood (also Hermes), will be coming September 29th in digital (did I mention free?).

BloodHunt300 Then October brings BLOOD HUNT, the fifth novel in the series (and possibly my favorite), making this one fabulous fall!

If you’ve made it this far, thank you and congratulations for wading through my babble! If you’d like to see how my mischievous muse fares when I rein her in, I hope you’ll check out the Latter-Day Olympians series.

I’m so, so excited for everything going on this fall for the Latter-Day Olympians series!  Check it out:

BATTLE FOR THE BLOOD (4th in the series) comes out on September 1st in trade paperback.  (Though it’s already out in digital and already available for pre-order in print at B&N, Amazon, Books-a-Million, etc.)

Trickster Blood, the first full-length story featuring Hermes (also from the series) releases in digital (for FREE!!) on September 29th, though, of course, you can preorder any time: Kindle, ARe, etc.)

BLOOD HUNT (5th Latter-Day Olympians novel and possibly my favorite!) publishes in print and digital on October 27th!!! (But you can pre-order it now with Samhain, Amazon, Barnes & Noble….)

I’ll be doing a whole host of things to celebrate as time goes on, but today I’d like to direct your attention to my short, short story featuring Hermes and Hecate, Tricks, Treats and Sandy Feets, which is up today on Literary Escapism for your viewing pleasure!

In case Tricks, Treats and Sandy Feets tickles your fancy and you want to check out more, here’s the entire series for your reading pleasure:

Character’s Court: Tori Karacis vs. Author Lucienne Diver

If I Ruled the World (by Hermes)

BadBlood300 Before I post the write up and picks from the Lake County Library system’s amazing Trash to Fashion event, I have to do the obligatory – HEY, EVERYONE, THE FIRST NOVEL IN MY LATTER-DAY OLYMPIANS SERIES IS AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW FOR ONLY $.99 post!  (Oh, sorry, inside voice. I know, I know. But it’s just so exciting!!!)  I’m hoping that if you haven’t already been sucked into the mythology, murder and mayhem of my urban fantasy series that you’ll take the chance now.  Less than a dollar!  What do you have to lose?  Anyway, the special pricing is available now in Samhain’s store, for Kindle, Nook & Kobo, etc. and will run through November 7th!

Also, if anyone wants to read a bit more on the series, I’m up today at Magical Words with a piece on Pantheons and Pantsers.  Some of my other favorite Latter-Day posts of recent memory: Character’s Court and “If I Ruled the World” by Hermes.

And now, I’m so excited to present the pics from Saturday’s 5th Annual Trash to Fashion Event.  For those who don’t know, I emcee this event every year (except for 2013 when the date changed and I was unable to make it).  The kids blow me away every time with their talent and ingenuity.  This year I was inspired to make my own upcycled couture – a paper maché bodice with zebra-print duct tape to finish off the edges and a fringe skirt made of magazine covers.  Note: no actual books were harmed in the making of this corset top.  The pages were taken from an early reading copy of Chloe Neill’s wonderful Chicagoland Vampires novel WILD THINGS, which was destined to be recycled, since finished books have long since been available.  I hope you’ll all enjoy a taste of this amazing talent show.  I felt like I was up close and personal on an episode of Project Runway.  (For any of you who’ve read my Vamped young adult series featuring my fanged fashionista, you’ll understand when I saw that my inner-Gina was squeeing.)

Wonderful time once again at Necronomicon!  Great people, fun costumes and talent show (where I came in 3rd for my rendition of The Flash Girls’ classic “A Girl Needs a Knife”) and wonderful panelists.  Perhaps my favorite thing to come of it is my very own Cerberus, courtesy of Rebecca Foreman, which arrived just yesterday.  My dogs have already accepted him as one of their own.  Ginger has already given him kisses.  (Then, of course, tried to run off with him.)  Anyway, meet the newest addition to our family.  Isn’t he cute?

Yes, a little shameless self-promotion for the Later-Day Olympians series there, where Cerberus might have some part to play, perhaps long about book 2…

Another shameless plug, Samhain is doing special pricing on the first book, BAD BLOOD, starting October 20th.  I will post links and shout to the rafters and would love any boosting of the signal y’all want to give me at that time.  Got to keep Cerberus in kibble.  I’m a little terrified of the alternative!

I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked at Necronomicon, but here are some of the fun costumes I did get!

The trouble comes in the form of my character Hermes (and what a character he is!) getting the drop on me and running off on his own to do an interview for I Smell Sheep about what would happen if he ruled the world.  Just take a look!  If you like him, you might want to check out my whole Latter-Day Olympians series. If you’re not sure yet, you can check out their Character’s Court, where my heroine, Tori Karacis, takes me to task for everything I put her through.

In other news, I know I’ve been back for more than a month now, but I’m finally caught up enough on work that I can find a few minutes to post some of my pics from Australia!  Today some shots from my jetlagged day one – the harbor, the botanical gardens (mind you, it was their winter season) and St.

I’m so pleased to wish some awesome new happy book birthdays.  All the birthdays today seem to have something in common…modern stories with mythic/supernatural slants.  Check them out!

Predator_cover PREDATOR by Janice Gable Bashman

The hunt is on!

Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.

When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics.

“Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she’s still got me. I want more!” — New York Times Bestselling Author Nancy Holder

“I thought I had read all there was about werewolves, until I read Ms. Bashman’s novel. WOW.” — Kimberly S. Mason

“If you like Teen Wolf, you should read Predator.” — Nick Rosenburg

“Cool book. Love the cover and the vibe. Will definitely read her next book in the series.” — Vanessa C.

“Thanks for letting me read Predator by Janice Gable Bashman. Not what I expected at all. Really loved the different take on werewolves.” — Anna Brand

black water BLACK WATER by Faith Hunter

Three stories from New York Times bestselling author Faith Hunter, starring shapeshifting skinwalker Jane Yellowrock.

In Snafu, a young Jane shows up for her internship with a securities firm. But before she even gets her foot in the door, she’s accosted by two street toughs and is forced to draw on her new-found Beast-magic to defend herself…

In Black Water, Jane encounters a dire situation involving an escaped prisoner and endangered hostages. With a helpful—and oddly sane—werewolf, Jane goes after the criminals, but can she stop them in time to bring the kidnapped women home alive?

In Off the Grid, Jane goes on what looks like a simple mission for the Knoxville blood-master—finding a missing Mithran. Her search leads Jane to a young woman named Nell, a woman with a scarred past and a strange power, a woman who may hold the key to saving the missing vampire, if Jane can convince her to assist.

Includes an exclusive preview of the Jane Yellowrock novel, Broken Soul, coming October 2014 from Roc!

“VERDICT: Jane Yellowrock is one of the most intriguing heroines in urban fantasy, and Hunter skillfully doles out tiny pieces of Jane’s backstory to keep readers coming back for more. Mystery and action are at the forefront here, but the romance from the first book continues to build slowly. Readers eager for the next book in Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series may want to give Faith Hunter a try.”    —Library Journal, starred review (for BLOOD CROSS)

“Jane’s world is a fully realized one, full of shapeshifters, Native American magic and folklore, baddies that will make your hair stand on end, and a heroine, that, despite her considerable skills, harbors plenty of vulnerability and self-doubt. If you love urban fantasy or just plain wonderful writing and world building, this is the series for you.” —My Bookish Ways

“Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series is a must-read for any urban fantasy fan. Start with Skinwalker! drey’s rating: Excellent!” —Drey’s Library

BattleForTheBlood300 BATTLE FOR THE BLOOD by, well, me

Dragons, demons, gods, gorgons. Who will save the world…and who could destroy it?

Latter-Day Olympians, Book 4

Tori wakes after Rise of the Blood to two very shocking realizations: one, she’s in bed with a very naked Apollo, having lost the fight to resist their attraction. Two, she still has her wings. Not dinky little fairy wings. Full-scale, cover-’em-with-a-trench-coat bat wings.

Apollo suggests consulting the Gray Sisters on the wings. Those cannibalistic, psychopathic oracles who, even with only one tooth and one eye among them, manage to see too much. As in a Rapture, zombie-apocalypse, biblical-plague, hellgates-busted-open the end of the world.

While the Sisters are perfectly on board with death and destruction, the thinning of the human herd doesn’t sit well with them at all. They’ll help her. All she has to do is save the world.

Tori and her team trace the origin of the plagues to New York City, which is under quarantine and martial law—as if that’s enough to stop the influx of gods and gorgons, dragons and demons. But as death threatens from without, betrayal lurks within Tori’s ranks. And nobody is safe. Nobody.

Warning: Betrayal and bad-assery, sensuality and a sizzling hot sun god. Death, demons, destruction and, potentially, the end of the world as we know it…zombie style.

I won’t weigh you down with quotes on mine, except maybe for my favorite, from Long and Short Reviews, “Bad Blood is a delightful urban fantasy, a clever mix of Janet Evanovich and Rick Riordan, and a true Lucienne Diver original.”

So excited that my third Latter-Day Olympians novel, RISE OF THE BLOOD, is out in print today, just in time for the fourth, BATTLE FOR THE BLOOD, to release in digital on September 16th!  (Obligatory links below.)

I Smell SheepOf course, my celebration is a little stymied this morning, by my heroine, Tori Karacis, taking me to task over everything I’ve put her through.  It’s true!  Check out the proceedings over at I Smell Sheep.   (There’s a giveaway in it for you…that not I’m trying to win the court of public opinion or anything!)

RiseOfTheBlood72lg RISE OF THE BLOOD by Lucienne Diver

Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Books-a-Million, Mysterious Galaxy, Indiebound, Powell’s

Book Blurb: Tori Karacis’s face is on the front of yet another tabloid “news”paper, linked to Hollywood hottie Apollo Demas. It was ONE dinner, and she was pissed with him at the time. But that’s the least of her worries. Just before leaving for her cousin’s destination wedding in Delphi, she learns that her arch nemeses, Zeus and Poseidon, have escaped police custody.

Despite looking forward to seeing Detective Nick Armani in a tux, her bad pre-flight jitters are confirmed when Apollo, with his sexy new co-star on his arm, boards the same plane. A plane that a freak storm nearly tears out of the sky.

What awaits them atop Mount Parnassus is even more deadly. A prophecy, a kidnapping, and a bloodletting that stirs up the mother of all trouble-literally. Rhea is awakened, and she’s none too happy with her offspring for losing their usurped dominion over the Earth.

The Olympians have fallen. It’s time for the Titans to rise again. Which means it’ll be a bad day for anyone standing in their way.

Warning: Bloodbath or blissful union…either way, the stakes are high in this destination Delphi wedding high atop the peaks of Mount Parnassus. Passions will flare, Titans will rise, monsters will awake, blood will boil and some will spill.
