Dark Queen Cover THE DARK QUEEN by Faith Hunter (Ace, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Books-a-million)

Jane Yellowrock used to hunt vampires, but now she must fight–and win–beside them.

As Enforcer to the vampire Master of the City of New Orleans, Jane Yellowrock stakes her reputation and her life on keeping her territory safe. But Leo has been issued a blood challenge by the emperor of the European vampires, who seeks to usurp all of his power and possessions. If Leo loses the match to the death, the city will be forfeit, and the people of New Orleans will suffer the consequences. Jane can’t let that happen.

Preparing for the duel requires all of Jane’s focus, but with so much supernatural power in play, nothing goes according to plan. She has to rely on herself and the very few people she knows she can trust to stand and fight. Only two things are guaranteed: nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.

texas soldier's so THE TEXAS SOLDIER’S SON by Karen Whiddon (Harlequin, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Books-a-million)

A thrilling new Top Secret Deliveries story

Army ranger Kyle Benning never expected to live again…or have a family. When he was believed dead in an explosion, Nicole Shelton gave birth to Kyle’s baby. Now she’s a widow and a prime suspect in a murder case! Everything Kyle once knew is as dangerous as a war zone, but he battles trauma and a killer to rescue the woman he still loves.

Still here! I’ve just been crazy busy between deals and contracts and the London Book Fair and travel to Paris afterward. I hope to have some pics and maybe a write-up of the trip up on the blog some time next week, but I didn’t want to wait to post a belated Happy Book Birthday to R.S. Belcher for his new release THE NIGHT DAHLIA!

Night Dahlia comp.jpg

THE NIGHT DAHLIA by R.S. Belcher (Tor Books, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Books-a-million, Indiebound)

“Belcher is a natural storyteller, and his crackling fight scenes spit sparks of magic and mayhem… This dark, imaginative tale will appeal to fans of gritty, no-holds-barred urban fantasy and horror.” – Publishers Weekly

“Belcher blends together urban fantasy with a hard-boiled, grim style reminiscent of many modern-noir heavy hitters, such as Robert B. Parker, James Ellroy, or Elmore Leonard. Though much more bleak than the average entry in the “wizard detective” genre, The Night Dahlia should please not only existing Belcher fans but any fantasy reader looking for a dark but satisfying slice of fantasy noir.” — Booklist

Laytham Ballard once protected humanity as part of the Nightwise, a secret order of modern-day mages dedicating to holding hellish supernatural forces at bay, but that was before a string of sadistic ritual murders shook everything he believed in―and sent him down a much darker path. One that has already cost him most of his soul, as well as everything he once held dear.

Now a powerful faerie mob boss has hired Ballard to find his lost-lost daughter, who went missing several years ago. The long-cold trail leads him across the globe, from the luxurious playgrounds of the rich and famous to the seedy occult underbelly of Los Angeles, where creatures of myth and legend mingle with street gangs and sex clubs, and where Ballard finds his own guilty past waiting for him around every shadowy corner. To find Caern Ankou, he will have to confront old enemies, former friends and allies, and a grisly cold case that has haunted him for years.

But is Caern still alive? And, perhaps more importantly, does she even want to be found?

Meet your new favorite kickass heroine in this daring YA series by New York Times bestselling authors Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre, a thrilling yet romantic futuristic adventure perfect for fans of Claudia Gray’s A Thousand Pieces of You.

Petty criminal Zara Cole has a painful past that’s made her stronger than most, which is why she chose life in New Detroit instead moving with her family to Mars. In her eyes, living inside a dome isn’t much better than a prison cell.

Still, when Zara commits a crime that has her running scared, jail might be exactly where she’s headed. Instead Zara is recruited into the Honors, an elite team of humans selected by the Leviathan—a race of sentient alien ships—to explore the outer reaches of the universe as their passengers.

Zara seizes the chance to flee Earth’s dangers, but when she meets Nadim, the alien ship she’s assigned, Zara starts to feel at home for the first time. But nothing could have prepared her for the dark, ominous truths that lurk behind the alluring glitter of starlight.

It seems that I’m not the only one excited about David Mack’s new release, THE MIDNIGHT FRONT, the first in his epic Dark Arts series for Tor Books. Amazon has named it one of the Best Books of the Month: Science Fiction & Fantasy. Sci-Fi Bulletin calls it, “A terrific opening salvo in this rewriting of the 20th Century.” Kirkus Reviews calls it, “propulsive, with well-crafted characters and cinematic set pieces culled from the war’s most momentous crossroads. Equal parts brimstone and gunpowder, the book deftly mixes the tropes of high fantasy into a semirealistic portrayal of WWII.” Check it out!

midnight front THE MIDNIGHT FRONT by David Mack

From New York Times bestselling author David Mack comes a visionary World War II-era adventure. The Midnight Front is the epic first novel in the Dark Arts series.

On the eve of World War Two, Nazi sorcerers come gunning for Cade but kill his family instead. His one path of vengeance is to become an apprentice of The Midnight Front―the Allies’ top-secret magickal warfare program―and become a sorcerer himself.

Unsure who will kill him first―his allies, his enemies, or the demons he has to use to wield magick―Cade fights his way through occupied Europe and enemy lines. But he learns too late the true price of revenge will be more terrible than just the loss of his soul―and there’s no task harder than doing good with a power born of ultimate evil.

Barnes & Noble’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy blog has just done a whole post in praise of Librarians, particularly, Genevieve Cogman’s incredible Irene Winters from the Invisible Library series, of which the latest, THE LOST PLOT (US, UK), has just been unleashed unto the world!

 wookiee

Happy New Year, all! I hope your holidays were amazing and renewing. We had a lovely staycation here, which included visits with family, an abundance of amazing food, much of it made by my husband (no one wants to eat my cooking…unless it’s pasta, and then all bets are off), a trip to Disney, hugging a Wookiee, a trip to Busch Gardens, and binge-watching Dexter. Yup, nothing says the holidays like blood and bodies. You heard it here first.

I’m still playing catch-up at the office, though, which is why I’m late shouting from the rafters about the US release of Genevieve Cogman’s latest Invisible Library novel, THE LOST PLOT, details below! To make up for it, I’m giving away one copy of the audio edition from Audible. Comment here for a chance to win. Winner will be chosen at Random on Monday, the 22nd!

Praise for the Invisible Library Novels

“Clever dialogue, time hopping through fun locales, plenty of action, and hints of fresh plotting will have readers looking forward to further Library missions.”—Library Journal

“Clever, creepy, elaborate world building and snarky, sexy-smart characters!”—N. K. Jemisin, author of The Fifth Season

“Ms. Cogman has opened a new pathway into our vast heritage of imagined wonderlands. And yet, as her story reminds us, we yearn for still more.”—The Wall Street Journal

“Funny, exciting, and oh-so-inspiring, this is the kind of fantasy novel that will have female readers everywhere gearing up for their own adventure.”—Bustle

After being commissioned to find a rare book, Librarian Irene and her assistant, Kai, head to Prohibition-era New York and are thrust into the middle of a political fight with dragons, mobsters, and Fae.

In a 1920s-esque New York, Prohibition is in force; fedoras, flapper dresses, and tommy guns are in fashion: and intrigue is afoot. Intrepid Librarians Irene and Kai find themselves caught in the middle of a dragon political contest. It seems a young Librarian has become tangled in this conflict, and if they can’t extricate him, there could be serious repercussions for the mysterious Library. And, as the balance of power across mighty factions hangs in the balance, this could even trigger war.

Irene and Kai are locked in a race against time (and dragons) to procure a rare book. They’ll face gangsters, blackmail, and the Library’s own Internal Affairs department. And if it doesn’t end well, it could have dire consequences on Irene’s job. And, incidentally, on her life…
