First, huge congratulations to Faith Hunter for her Audie Award nomination in the Paranormal category for BLOOD OF THE EARTH, the first in her Soulwood series, read by Kristine Hvam!

In other audio news, R.S. Belcher’s THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE WHEEL was named Fit for the Big Screen by Audible.com in their recent promotion. I couldn’t agree more.

While we’re on the big screen, Book Riot listed N.K. Jemisin’s THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS as one of their 5 Diverse Fantasies that Need Movie Adaptations!

And now, I’m excited to present this week’s new releases – paranormal romance, and superheroes and secret identities!

twilight-crossing TWILIGHT CROSSING by Susan Krinard (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo)

Bound by blood, sealed in secrets

A half-blood Rider, Timon has a duty to anyone under his protection, but his intense attraction to scientist Jamie McCullough is complicating his latest mission. In a moment of desperation, he makes a difficult choice. His bite heals her—and creates a bond that neither of them can resist.

As she heads for a conclave convened to create new peace between humans and vampires, Jamie carries a secret that could secure peace everlasting. But before she has a chance to reveal it, she’s accused of bringing a vampire-killing virus to the negotiations. Though Timon is willing to pay the ultimate price to save her, can he first win the ultimate challenge of her trust?

super-city-cops3SUPER CITY COPS: SECRET IDENTITIES by Keith R.A. DeCandido (Kindle, Nook, Kobo)

THE THIRD CASE FOR THE SUPER CITY COPS!

Lieutenant Therese Zimmerman’s life is turned upside down when a badly injured Spectacular Man stumbles into her apartment and reveals himself to be her on-again, off-again boyfriend, philanthropist Marc McLean.

At the same time, Detectives Kristin Milewski and Jorge Alvarado investigate what seems to be a simple murder of four homeless people by a powerful supervillain. Unknown to them, the murders are connected to how Spectacular Man got hurt. Now Zimmerman must choose between the person she cares about and her duty as a cop.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

The great metropolis of Super City is the home of dozens of costumed heroes — the Terrific Trio, the Bruiser, the Superior Six, the Cowboy, and many more — who do battle against the super-villains who terrorize the citizenry.

These aren’t their stories …

When the heroes are done punching out the villains, it’s left to the stalwart men and women of the Super City Police Department to restrain them, arrest them, and hope that this time there’s enough evidence to actually convict them.

Just another day on the job for the Super City Cops.

I missed my blog post last week for very good reason – two wonderful people in town, first my best friend from college, Su, and then Christie Golden, who I’ve worked with ever since my very first year as an agent.  (You can read all about how we met and came to work together here.) She’s going to be back through town this coming weekend, and we’re looking forward to going together to see the Assassin’s Creed movie that she did the novelization for. She’s seen it countless times, mind you, but not yet on the big screen, so this will be a treat for us all!

Missing the blog means that while I tweeted and Facebooked, I didn’t post here about last week’s exciting release of “Phantom Kiss,” the new Chicagoland Vampires novella by Chloe Neill. Really, really, this is not to be missed! Check it!

phantom-kiss PHANTOM KISS by Chloe Neill (Kindle, Nook, Kobo)

In this all-new novella from the New York Times bestselling author of Midnight Marked, Merit, Ethan, and the rest of Cadogan House crew discover that not all undead creatures are kindred spirits…

Vampires generally aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night, but Merit and Ethan are extra jumpy after a recent attack by a dark sorcerer. So when they learn that someone is messing with graves in Chicago’s cemeteries, stealing skulls and snatching souls, they fear that their powerful foe might be back for even more magical vengeance.

But after a specter begins haunting Cadogan House—and targeting vampires—they realize that they’re being taunted by an altogether different sort of monster. A ghoulish villain straight out of the Windy City’s urban legends is on the prowl—and he won’t stop until he’s killed again…

Includes a sneak peek of Blade Bound, the epic final novel in the New York Times bestselling Chicagoland Vampires series.

I’m also very pleased to post The Knight Agency’s nominees for the RT Book Awards! Congratulations to Nalini Singh, Deborah Blake, R.S. Belcher, N.K. Jemisin and Karen Booth for your nominations!

March is another exciting book release month!  Today alone there are four amazing titles (more, I’m sure, but four that I had a hand in) that you absolutely can’t/shouldn’t miss.  Check out this line-up:

midnight marked MIDNIGHT MARKED by Chloe Neill

“It defies reason, really. Book series are supposed to slow down, get stale as they go on, particularly when installments reach double digits. But with the Chicagoland Vampires Series, the opposite has happened. These books were wonderful from the start, but they have continued to get better and better with each successive book. Midnight Marked is no exception.” —Saucy Wenches Book Club

“Fans will definitely be left screaming in joy, and at Neill for the next book.” —Literary Escapism

As the Chicagoland Vampires series continues, Merit and Ethan find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where winning may require the ultimate sacrifice…

A vampire’s grudges don’t stay dead long…

Merit is one of Chicago’s most skilled vampire warriors; these days, she doesn’t scare easily. But she and Master vampire Ethan have made a new and powerful enemy, and he won’t give up until he owns the Windy City.

With his last plan thwarted, he’s more determined than ever to watch Cadogan burn. Ethan has put the House’s vampires on high alert, but their enemy will stop at nothing, including pitting supernatural against supernatural…

In this deadly game of cat-and-mouse, the stakes are life or death—and winning might mean sacrificing everything…

midnight bites MIDNIGHT BITES by Rachel Caine

“Equal parts humor, disaster, and romance, these stories definitely sparked something in us! …In a setting as rich and developed as Morganville, there are plenty of stories to tell. Rachel Caine does an excellent job bringing them all to the forefront and introducing them. If you’ve been waiting to return to Morganville, we think you’ll be really happy with Midnight Bites and all it has to offer!” —TheFandom.net

“MIDNIGHT BITES is a very satisfying absolute must read for Morganville fans.” —A Book Obsession

Now, in this collection, you can venture down the town’s strange streets, revisit all the tales you’ve come to love, and experience six new stories featuring your favorite Morganville residents—both human and vampire…

brotherhood of the wheel BROTHERHOOD OF THE WHEEL by R.S. Belcher

“Belcher has one hell of an addicting style of writing. Lyrical, flowing, full of imagery and start atmosphere, this book instantly sucked me in. And then he hit me with all the mythology and urban legends and I was in heaven.” —Bookworm Blues

“With characters impossible not to root for, this fun, nonstop tale (set throughout the Eastern half of the U.S.) has genuinely creepy moments, rendered vividly by Belcher’s fertile imagination.” —Publishers Weekly

Cover copy:

R.S. Belcher, the acclaimed author of The Six-Gun Tarot and The Shotgun Arcana launches a gritty new urban fantasy series about the mysterious society of truckers known only as, The Brotherhood of The Wheel.

In 1119 A.D., a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon–a militant monastic order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, the Knights Templar would grow in power and, ultimately, be laid low. But a small offshoot of the Templars endure and have returned to the order’s original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.

Theirs is a secret line of knights: truckers, bikers, taxi hacks, state troopers, bus drivers, RV gypsies–any of the folks who live and work on the asphalt arteries of America. They call themselves the Brotherhood of the Wheel.

Jimmy Aussapile is one such knight. He’s driving a big rig down South when a promise to a ghostly hitchhiker sets him on a quest to find out the terrible truth behind a string of children gone missing all across the country. The road leads him to Lovina Hewitt, a skeptical Louisiana State Police investigator working the same case and, eventually, to a forgotten town that’s not on any map–and to the secret behind the eerie Black-Eyed Kids said to prowl the highways.

dark disciple DARK DISCIPLE by Christie Golden (paperback release)

“Reading Dark Disciple really feels like you’re watching some of the best episodes of The Clone Wars.”EUCantina

“Emotionally charged . . . Christie Golden does a wonderful job of capturing the characters.”—Roqoo Depot

Cover copy:

Based on unproduced episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this new novel features Asajj Ventress, former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter and one of the great antiheroes in the Star Wars galaxy.

The only way to bring down the Sith’s most dangerous warrior may be to join forces with the dark side.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force’s power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku’s side still runs deep, Ventress’s hatred for her former master runs deeper. She’s more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos’s quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku—as long as the emerging feelings between them don’t compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior’s spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts—a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt.

A brand new series from New York Times bestselling author Chloe Neill.
Seven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused.

Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack—in full view of the French Quarter—Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs, even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head.

As more and more Sensitives fall prey to their magic, and unleash their hunger on the city, Claire and Liam must work together to save New Orleans, or else the city will burn…

alice ALICE by Christina Henry (Amazon, B&N, BAM)

A mind-bending new novel inspired by the twisted and wondrous works of Lewis Carroll…

In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn’t remember why she’s in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood…

Then, one night, a fire at the hospital gives the woman a chance to escape, tumbling out of the hole that imprisoned her, leaving her free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago.

Only something else has escaped with her. Something dark. Something powerful.

And to find the truth, she will have to track this beast to the very heart of the Old City, where the rabbit waits for his Alice.

fifth season THE FIFTH SEASON by N.K. Jemisin (Amazon, B&N, BAM)

THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS. FOR THE LAST TIME.

A season of endings has begun.

It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world’s sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun.

It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter.

It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester.

This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

A new fantasy trilogy by Hugo, Nebula & World Fantasy Award nominated author N.K. Jemisin.

I have to interrupt these blogs of my Ireland trip for amazing book news…after all, this is primarily a book blog!

mullinsnrca First, huge congrats to Debra Mullins, who brought home the National Reader’s Choice Award for Best Paranormal Romance for HEART OF STONE, the second in her TruthSeers series.  The first book, PRODIGAL SON, won first place last year in the Book Buyers’ Best Awards!  Plus, among other accolades, Publishers Weekly gave it a starred review and said, “Suspense and romance are wrapped together in such a way that neither overwhelms the other—and they combine beautifully with intriguing secondary characters, sensual passion, and powerful themes of trust and loyalty.”  Take note, paranormal romance fans!

In an exhilarating new series, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine rewrites history, creating a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.…

Ruthless and supremely powerful, the Great Library is now a presence in every major city, governing the flow of knowledge to the masses. Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantly—but the personal ownership of books is expressly forbidden.

Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowledge comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market. Jess has been sent to be his family’s spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Library’s service.

When he inadvertently commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who control the Great Library believe that knowledge is more valuable than any human life—and soon both heretics and books will burn.…

shoresofspain
A brilliant new chapter in the Novels of the Golden City.

Even as the branches of peace are being offered, there are some who still believe those who are not human should be used as chattel. And they are willing to go to great lengths to retain their power.

Newlywed siren Oriana Paredes has been appointed Ambassador to her home islands now that communication between Northern Portugual and the magical races has been restored. But convincing her people that the new Portuguese Prince’s intentions are honorable after years of persecution is difficult. And her husband, Duilio, faces his own obstacles among the sirens where males are a rare and valuable commodity with few rights.

In addition to their diplomatic mission, the two hope to uncover the truth behind Oriana’s mother’s death. Evidence suggests that Spain—a country that has been known to enslave magical beings—may have infiltrated the siren authority. Unable to leave their post, Oriana and Duilio must call on Inspector Joaquim Tavares to root out the truth.

But even his seer’s gift cannot prepare him for what he will discover.
