nexus Tonight, the place to be is the Angry Robot live chat with Ramez Naam, among others.  Just look at this line up here!  It’s happening at 8:30 p.m. EDT, so I’m a little late posting, but it’s been so busy today that I never even got my second cup of coffee.  For those of you who know me, don’t worry, I have not actually taken anyone’s head off…yet.  The night is still young.

Vamped Saturday, however…Saturday, May 3rd you’re going to want to chat with fellow YA author Sherry D. Ficklin and author-me over at Jessica Porter’s Read On because not only will we be vastly informative and entertaining (I hope), but we’ll be doing some awesome giveaways.  Free stuff!  The chance to pick our brains!  What more could you want?  (Yes, yes…world peace, the man or woman of your dreams, the winning lottery ticket, but aside from all that!)

Teach-Me-a-Lesson250 The above may go straight out the window if you’re in California.  I get that entirely, because in CA Saturday is California Bookstore Day, and I insist that you hie thyself to your closest brick and mortar store and browse their selection, meet visiting authors, get signatures, etc.  If you’re in the San Fran area, you might want to do this at Village Books where amazeballs erotic author Jasmine Haynes will be signing from 4-6, along with other authors popping in at various times, schedule here.

I’m time crunched at the moment between the vacation backlog and the final prep work for next week’s London Book Fair, so while I have three amazing book birthdays this week (SHARDS OF TIME by Lynn Flewelling, THE WOLF SIREN by Karen Whiddon and TEACH ME A LESSON by Jasmine Haynes), I’m going to celebrate them with a post a day so that each gets to shine on it’s own!

Before I start, I have to wish HUGE congratulations to TJ Bennett for finaling in the RITA Award for Best Historical for her wonderful, atmospheric novel DARK ANGEL and to Ramez Naam, whose received even more recognition for his sf thrillers NEXUS and CRUX, this time by being shortlisted for the Prometheus Award.  So proud!

And now (drum roll please)…  I’m so thrilled with the early attention Jasmine Haynes is receiving for her latest erotic novel TEACH ME A LESSON, like this fabulous quote from Heroes & Heartbreakers: “There is no one who writes pure erotic fantasy better than Haynes.”  I’m sure you can all guess that I think she’s wonderful, but you shouldn’t take my word for it!  Run out and see for yourselves.

Teach-Me-a-Lesson250 TEACH ME A LESSON by Jasmine Haynes (Berkley)

Do what you have to do, Principal. I deserve it…

High school guidance counselor by day, sex therapist by night, Charlotte Moore’s passion is people—whether helping students with the realities of life or helping their parents with the fantasies. Enter Principal Lance Hutton, the perfect subject for Charlotte’s method in recharging the sex drive—and it’s going to take some discipline. Considering this hot older man is her boss, it makes sense that he dole out the punishment. Besides, Charlotte’s begging for it.

But when Charlotte’s after-school extracurricular activities are made public, it threatens her job, her reputation, and the career of the man she’s falling head over heels in love with. Now, if this town wants a scandal, Charlotte and Lance are ready to give them one—and a lesson in bad behavior they’ll never forget.

Now, it just so happens that Jasmine Haynes came up today in Amy Christine Parker’s and my vlog for YA Rebels.  Not because she’s YA (decidedly not!) but because when I went out to Los Angeles to research my first Latter-Day Olympians novel, she came out to meet me, and we had a grand old time.  Only a fraction of our travels and travails made it into BAD BLOOD, but I’ll have the memories for a lifetime.  If you’re interested in hearing a bit more, here’s the vlog talking about writing, travel and inspiration.  Enjoy!

I’m so pleased to wish happy book birthdays to Debra Mullins, Jasmine Haynes, Karen Whiddon and Rachel Caine for their new titles below!

Prodigal Son PRODIGAL SON by Debra Mullins (Tor Romance trade paperback)

“Mullins (Too Wicked to Love) weaves a believable, spicy tapestry of love, intrigue, and family ties in this splendid paranormal romance… Well paced and tightly plotted, this enthralling page-turner matches a strong yet vulnerable heroine with a flawed alpha male to create a deliciously engrossing story. Suspense and romance are wrapped together in such a way that neither overwhelms the other—and they combine beautifully with intriguing secondary characters, sensual passion, and powerful themes of trust and loyalty.” —Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

Prodigal Son—the new paranormal romance from acclaimed historical romance author Debra Mullins

Bounty hunter Rafe Montana is a Seer, descended from the fabled Atlanteans. He uses his inherited power to “see” criminals across the globe and track them down, and he’s just started on a new case. Danny Cangialosi is accused of disappearing with a stolen car…but for the first time in his life, when Rafe goes looking, he is unable to “see” him. Instead, his search leads him to Danny’s stubborn, meddling, and very cute stepsister, Cara McGaffigan.

Cara is looking for Danny, too, but not to turn him in. He is her brother, after all, and she’s convinced he has a good heart. If she can just find him before the cops do, she’ll figure out a way to get him out of this. But Cara didn’t count on a scorching-hot bounty hunter getting in her way.

Despite instant chemistry, Rafe and Cara know they’re never going to see eye-to-eye when it comes to Danny. What they don’t know is that Danny didn’t just steal a car—he stole a precious stone, a stone right out of the legends of Atlantis. It holds powers they can only dream of…and its owner wants it back.

NaughtyCorner THE NAUGHTY CORNER by Jasmine Haynes (Berkley trade paperback)

“the fun these two have as their sexual relationship progresses is a breath of fresh air.”
—Romantic Times Book Reviews (4 stars)

Somebody’s been a bad girl…

Writer Lola Cook is on a deadline. Meeting it gets twice as difficult when she finds herself in the unwelcome role of babysitter for her nephews. Two months with the twin teenage terrors is too much for Lola—until she has a brilliant idea: send the boys to football camp. That’ll at least get them out of her hair for five hours every day. Perfect.

Divorced father Gray Barnett has coached summer football camp long enough to know he’ll get saddled with misfits, but William and Harry exceed all expectations. They’re impossible, they’re disruptive, and when he meets their hot aunt Lola, they’re worth the trouble. That is, if Lola accepts Gray’s conditions.

Every time the twins misbehave, it’s Lola who must take their punishment. With every naughty infraction, Lola gets more and more accepting—of the penalties. She has no idea just how bad a girl she can be—or how much fun she’ll have getting what she deserves.

After all, she’s only back in Anniversary, Texas, to help investigate the bizarre disappearance of her best friend, Shayna.

The sooner they find Shayna, the sooner Zoe can return to New York. But Brock can’t stop thinking about the hot passion they once shared. And when danger surrounds Zoe, he must protect the only woman he’s ever loved. Even if it costs him everything.

fallofnight FALL OF NIGHT by Rachel Caine (Berkley trade paperback, reprint from the hardcover, Book 14 in the Morganville Vampires series)

“Fall of Night was absolutely, amazingly, stunningly awesome!” —Literal Addiction

“An absolute treat for fans of the series, FALL OF NIGHT is not to be missed!”—A Book Obsession

Thanks to its unique combination of human and vampire residents, Morganville, Texas, is a small college town with big time problems. When student Claire Danvers gets the chance to experience life on the outside, she takes it. But Morganville isn’t the only town with vampire trouble…

Claire never thought she’d get to leave Morganville, but she can’t pass up the chance to finally attend her dream school, MIT. After all, getting to invent anti-vamp devices with Professor Anderson—a Morganville exile herself—sounds like a dream come true…until Claire realizes that there are sinister forces in play, and she’s not the only one with a vampire-related agenda.

Without her friends Shane, Eve and Michael, surviving a killer schedule may be hard…but with them, it might turn out to be impossible.

So much to celebrate this week in addition to the latest book birthdays.

First, if you haven’t already heard me trumpet this (because I’m known for my subtlety), I have a bunch of my own new releases coming out this year, particularly in the Latter-Day Olympians series. The first book, BAD BLOOD, is already out from Samhain in all formats. The second, CRAZY IN THE BLOOD, is out in digital and will be released in trade paperback on July 2nd. That’s right, you could have it in time for reading over the July 4th long weekend! (No pressure, of course.) And if all that isn’t exciting enough, I recently received the final cover for book 3, RISE OF THE BLOOD, that I can share with you all. This one’s out in digital in September and print next year.

Now, I’d like to say that I look just this badass in a negotiation, but in all likelihood, I’m holding a cup of coffee and a telephone rather than purched upon a pedastal, but I do have the boots.  No, sadly, this isn’t me, but my heroine Tori Karacis, who has just enough gorgon blood to stop men in their tracks.  I love this pic because the model truly looks like she has the gorgon glare.  Talk about something that would come in handy in a negotiation!

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of boots (back a few sentences…there it is), I have a Latter-Day Olympians story coming out in the awesome KICKING IT anthology releasing from Roc Books in December of this year.  So, boots seem to be a bit of a theme (just check this cover):

“In short, Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires are an absolutely vital addition to any avid Vamp Lit fan’s bookshelf; fascinating, funny, at times infuriating but always fabulous, it is a series that has only gotten better with each new release and stars a panoply of captivating characters, including a heroine that you will come to love ever more as you get to know her, and a hero to—quite literally, in Merit’s case—die for.”                        —Heroes and Hearbreakers

NO TURNING BACK by Bryan Anderson and David Mack from Berkley

An exceptional memoir about one man’s truly inspirational outlook on living, no matter the odds.

Before you dig into this book, there are a few things I think you should know. First, I was a soldier, and I still talk like one-in other words, I swear. So, if bad words bother you, just squint and pretend you don’t see them.

I want you to know this book is not about the war in Iraq, and I’m not pushing a political agenda. Even though I’m going to tell you about the day I was wounded and what I went through during rehab, this book’s not just some war memoir or a pity party. I just want to share some of my stories with you. This book is not about being wounded. It’s not about struggling.

This book is about living. It’s about life.

In this inspiring memoir, Bryan shares his infectious love for life that touches anyone who’s faced hardship. No Turning Back is a testament to pure hard work, perseverance, and hope for a better life- no matter what shape it takes.
