March is another exciting book release month!  Today alone there are four amazing titles (more, I’m sure, but four that I had a hand in) that you absolutely can’t/shouldn’t miss.  Check out this line-up:

midnight marked MIDNIGHT MARKED by Chloe Neill

“It defies reason, really. Book series are supposed to slow down, get stale as they go on, particularly when installments reach double digits. But with the Chicagoland Vampires Series, the opposite has happened. These books were wonderful from the start, but they have continued to get better and better with each successive book. Midnight Marked is no exception.” —Saucy Wenches Book Club

“Fans will definitely be left screaming in joy, and at Neill for the next book.” —Literary Escapism

Cover copy:

As the Chicagoland Vampires series continues, Merit and Ethan find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where winning may require the ultimate sacrifice…

A vampire’s grudges don’t stay dead long…

Merit is one of Chicago’s most skilled vampire warriors; these days, she doesn’t scare easily. But she and Master vampire Ethan have made a new and powerful enemy, and he won’t give up until he owns the Windy City.

With his last plan thwarted, he’s more determined than ever to watch Cadogan burn. Ethan has put the House’s vampires on high alert, but their enemy will stop at nothing, including pitting supernatural against supernatural…

In this deadly game of cat-and-mouse, the stakes are life or death—and winning might mean sacrificing everything…

midnight bites MIDNIGHT BITES by Rachel Caine

“Equal parts humor, disaster, and romance, these stories definitely sparked something in us! …In a setting as rich and developed as Morganville, there are plenty of stories to tell. Rachel Caine does an excellent job bringing them all to the forefront and introducing them. If you’ve been waiting to return to Morganville, we think you’ll be really happy with Midnight Bites and all it has to offer!” —TheFandom.net

“MIDNIGHT BITES is a very satisfying absolute must read for Morganville fans.” —A Book Obsession

brotherhood of the wheel BROTHERHOOD OF THE WHEEL by R.S. Belcher

“Belcher has one hell of an addicting style of writing. Lyrical, flowing, full of imagery and start atmosphere, this book instantly sucked me in. And then he hit me with all the mythology and urban legends and I was in heaven.” —Bookworm Blues

“With characters impossible not to root for, this fun, nonstop tale (set throughout the Eastern half of the U.S.) has genuinely creepy moments, rendered vividly by Belcher’s fertile imagination.” —Publishers Weekly

Cover copy:

R.S. Belcher, the acclaimed author of The Six-Gun Tarot and The Shotgun Arcana launches a gritty new urban fantasy series about the mysterious society of truckers known only as, The Brotherhood of The Wheel.

In 1119 A.D., a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon–a militant monastic order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, the Knights Templar would grow in power and, ultimately, be laid low. But a small offshoot of the Templars endure and have returned to the order’s original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.

Theirs is a secret line of knights: truckers, bikers, taxi hacks, state troopers, bus drivers, RV gypsies–any of the folks who live and work on the asphalt arteries of America. They call themselves the Brotherhood of the Wheel.

Jimmy Aussapile is one such knight. He’s driving a big rig down South when a promise to a ghostly hitchhiker sets him on a quest to find out the terrible truth behind a string of children gone missing all across the country. The road leads him to Lovina Hewitt, a skeptical Louisiana State Police investigator working the same case and, eventually, to a forgotten town that’s not on any map–and to the secret behind the eerie Black-Eyed Kids said to prowl the highways.

dark disciple DARK DISCIPLE by Christie Golden (paperback release)

“Reading Dark Disciple really feels like you’re watching some of the best episodes of The Clone Wars.”EUCantina

“Emotionally charged . . . Christie Golden does a wonderful job of capturing the characters.”—Roqoo Depot

Cover copy:

Based on unproduced episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this new novel features Asajj Ventress, former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter and one of the great antiheroes in the Star Wars galaxy.

The only way to bring down the Sith’s most dangerous warrior may be to join forces with the dark side.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force’s power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku’s side still runs deep, Ventress’s hatred for her former master runs deeper. She’s more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos’s quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku—as long as the emerging feelings between them don’t compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior’s spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts—a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt.

Our Tuesday YA Rebels video will be up later today, giving tips on how to (and not to) find a literary agent.  I’m not ashamed to say that my thirteen year old son has to upload this for me – not because I don’t know what I’m doing, but because his tech is way more updated than mine, which needs a serious upgrade.  So, more on that soon.

daylighters In the meantime, I didn’t get to crow last week (except on Twitter and Facebook and to anyone who would listen) about Rachel Caine’s amazing Morganville Vampires series hitting the New York Times list once again (#10 for Children’s Series)!  DAYLIGHTERS, the fifteenth and final book in the series, launched earlier this month to great acclaim.  For those of you you’ve been waiting for the whole series before starting, this is it!  You can read from beginning to end…and then run out and get all of her other books in various series, because she’s amazing no matter where you start! Speaking of Rachel Caine, she’s donated a signed set of her Outcast Season and Revivalist series to raise money for the Red Cross’s Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.  You can bid here or check out what else Authors for the Philippines has on offer.  Don’t forget, the holidays are right around the corner and books make great gifts, especially when the money for them goes to such a great cause.

DustAndLight In other news, Bookworm Blues did a fabulous piece on fantasy writer Carol Berg and her career here.  Have I mentioned that she has a new series starting in August 2014 with DUST AND LIGHT (which – shameless plug – is already available for pre-order)?  It’s all about fantasy and forensics…two of my favorite things.  I’ve loved everything Carol’s ever written, but I might have to admit to a particularly warm place in my heart for this new series!

More as it happens.

First, three crazy-exciting new releases today: DAYLIGHTERS by Rachel Caine, the culmination of her Morganville Vampires series (15 books and all awesome – how does she do it?), a fabulous fantasy debut, THE GOLDEN CITY by J. Kathleen Cheney and TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL, the latest Blood Singer novel from Cat Adams Here’s a little bit about each:

daylighters DAYLIGHTERS by Rachel Caine (hardcover and digital from Penguin)

(Amazon, B&N, Books-a-Million, Indiebound)

While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one…

Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.

It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.

Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end…

goldencity_100dpi THE GOLDEN CITY by J. Kathleen Cheney (trade paperback and digital from Roc Books)

to dance with the devil TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL by Cat Adams (Tor Books)

(Amazon, B&N, Books-a-Million, Indiebound)

In To Dance with the Devil, the latest entry in Cat Adams’s Blood Singer series, Celia Graves’s newest client is one of the last surviving members of a magical family that is trapped in a generations-old feud with other magic-workers. She’s supposed to die at the next full moon unless Celia can broker peace between the clans or break the curse before it can take effect.

For the first time in a long while, Celia’s personal life is looking up. Her vampire abilities seem to be under control, her Siren abilities have gotten more reliable, and even though her office was blown up, her services are more in demand than ever now that she’s fought off terrorists and been part of the royal wedding of the year. Her friends all seem to be finding love and her grandmother has—finally—agreed to go to family therapy.

The only trouble spot is Celia’s love life. Not long ago, she had two boyfriends. Now she barely has one and she isn’t sure she wants him. But Bruno DeLuca is a powerful mage and Celia needs his help…especially after she’s attacked and her client is kidnapped.

In other news, Amy Christine Parker and I have our latest YA Rebels video up today with NaNoWriMo Tips.  Check it out!

In case anyone’s wondering – yes, the disembodied voice on tip #10 is that of my husband!

I’m so pleased to wish happy book birthdays to Debra Mullins, Jasmine Haynes, Karen Whiddon and Rachel Caine for their new titles below!

Prodigal Son PRODIGAL SON by Debra Mullins (Tor Romance trade paperback)

“Mullins (Too Wicked to Love) weaves a believable, spicy tapestry of love, intrigue, and family ties in this splendid paranormal romance… Well paced and tightly plotted, this enthralling page-turner matches a strong yet vulnerable heroine with a flawed alpha male to create a deliciously engrossing story. Suspense and romance are wrapped together in such a way that neither overwhelms the other—and they combine beautifully with intriguing secondary characters, sensual passion, and powerful themes of trust and loyalty.” —Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

Prodigal Son—the new paranormal romance from acclaimed historical romance author Debra Mullins

Bounty hunter Rafe Montana is a Seer, descended from the fabled Atlanteans. He uses his inherited power to “see” criminals across the globe and track them down, and he’s just started on a new case. Danny Cangialosi is accused of disappearing with a stolen car…but for the first time in his life, when Rafe goes looking, he is unable to “see” him. Instead, his search leads him to Danny’s stubborn, meddling, and very cute stepsister, Cara McGaffigan.

Cara is looking for Danny, too, but not to turn him in. He is her brother, after all, and she’s convinced he has a good heart. If she can just find him before the cops do, she’ll figure out a way to get him out of this. But Cara didn’t count on a scorching-hot bounty hunter getting in her way.

Despite instant chemistry, Rafe and Cara know they’re never going to see eye-to-eye when it comes to Danny. What they don’t know is that Danny didn’t just steal a car—he stole a precious stone, a stone right out of the legends of Atlantis. It holds powers they can only dream of…and its owner wants it back.

Writer Lola Cook is on a deadline. Meeting it gets twice as difficult when she finds herself in the unwelcome role of babysitter for her nephews. Two months with the twin teenage terrors is too much for Lola—until she has a brilliant idea: send the boys to football camp. That’ll at least get them out of her hair for five hours every day. Perfect.

Divorced father Gray Barnett has coached summer football camp long enough to know he’ll get saddled with misfits, but William and Harry exceed all expectations. They’re impossible, they’re disruptive, and when he meets their hot aunt Lola, they’re worth the trouble. That is, if Lola accepts Gray’s conditions.

Every time the twins misbehave, it’s Lola who must take their punishment. With every naughty infraction, Lola gets more and more accepting—of the penalties. She has no idea just how bad a girl she can be—or how much fun she’ll have getting what she deserves.

fallofnight FALL OF NIGHT by Rachel Caine (Berkley trade paperback, reprint from the hardcover, Book 14 in the Morganville Vampires series)

“Fall of Night was absolutely, amazingly, stunningly awesome!” —Literal Addiction

“An absolute treat for fans of the series, FALL OF NIGHT is not to be missed!”—A Book Obsession

Thanks to its unique combination of human and vampire residents, Morganville, Texas, is a small college town with big time problems. When student Claire Danvers gets the chance to experience life on the outside, she takes it. But Morganville isn’t the only town with vampire trouble…

Claire never thought she’d get to leave Morganville, but she can’t pass up the chance to finally attend her dream school, MIT. After all, getting to invent anti-vamp devices with Professor Anderson—a Morganville exile herself—sounds like a dream come true…until Claire realizes that there are sinister forces in play, and she’s not the only one with a vampire-related agenda.

Without her friends Shane, Eve and Michael, surviving a killer schedule may be hard…but with them, it might turn out to be impossible.

There have been so many exciting things going on lately that I haven’t found time to blog about them!  If you’re looking for something pithy-ish, I was over at Magical Words last week with an ode to stream-of-consciousness, my fifth grade teacher and the writing process.  If you’re looking for me to share with the class some of the excitement that’s been keeping me on my toes, stay with me here.

In no particular order, because it’s all so cool:

fallofnight Rachel Caine, partnering with producer/director Blake Calhoun, has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to make her internationally bestselling Morganville Vampires books into a web series, starting Amber Benson as Amelie.  Over $18,000 raised in just two days! Check it out!

wicked earl The first novel in Vicky Dreiling’s awesome new Sinful Scoundrels series came out from Warner Forever.  Who doesn’t want to know WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS?  Romantic Times gave it a Top Pick! rating and raves, “Dreiling’s first book in the Sinful Scoundrel’s series is wonderful! Rife with the Regancy’s penchant for gossip, scandal and matchmaking, WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS is a delightful romance featuring a rakish hero, an innocent widow, corrupt villans and a secondray cast of characters who add dimension, wit and tenderness to the plot. Reasers will find this a real pleasure to savor.”  Doesn’t get better than that!

Tor UK announced their pre-empt of a fabulous debut series by one of my clients, Genevieve Cogman.  As they describe it, THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY is like “Doctor Who with Librarian Spies”.  What more could you want?

In celebration of National Audiobook month, Tantor, which does the audiobooks for both the Morganville and Chicagoland Vampires series, is offering 50% off until June 30th!

SF Signal is doing a cover reveal and giveaway for CRUX, the sequel to Ramez Naam’s blockbuster NEXUS.  You can win the book even before you can buy it!  (Ends Sunday, so don’t wait!)

The Best Books Ever

fallofnight  I’m so excited that Rachel Caine’s latest release, FALL OF NIGHT, has once again propelled her Morganville Vampires to the New York Times Children’s Series bestseller list, now at #7!  If you haven’t yet been introduced, well then, you’ve got a whole incredible series to look forward to that just keeps getting better and better!  Need more than my word? Last year, the series was voted the most popular in the UK by over 300,000 school children, beating out the Twilight and Harry Potter series!

Hidden-Paradise200  I also want to congratulate Janet Mullany for finaling in the Booksellers’ Best contest in the erotic category for HIDDEN PARADISE!

In case you missed it, I waxed psychological over at Magical Words earlier this week with a post on “How Not to Write Like a Psychopath”.

I’m sure I’ll think of a million and one bits of news to post the moment I upload this blog, but since I have at least a million squared things that need my attention at the moment, I’ll sign off for now!

So much to celebrate this week in addition to the latest book birthdays.

First, if you haven’t already heard me trumpet this (because I’m known for my subtlety), I have a bunch of my own new releases coming out this year, particularly in the Latter-Day Olympians series. The first book, BAD BLOOD, is already out from Samhain in all formats. The second, CRAZY IN THE BLOOD, is out in digital and will be released in trade paperback on July 2nd. That’s right, you could have it in time for reading over the July 4th long weekend! (No pressure, of course.) And if all that isn’t exciting enough, I recently received the final cover for book 3, RISE OF THE BLOOD, that I can share with you all. This one’s out in digital in September and print next year.

RiseOfTheBlood72lg

Now, I’d like to say that I look just this badass in a negotiation, but in all likelihood, I’m holding a cup of coffee and a telephone rather than purched upon a pedastal, but I do have the boots.  No, sadly, this isn’t me, but my heroine Tori Karacis, who has just enough gorgon blood to stop men in their tracks.  I love this pic because the model truly looks like she has the gorgon glare.  Talk about something that would come in handy in a negotiation!

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of boots (back a few sentences…there it is), I have a Latter-Day Olympians story coming out in the awesome KICKING IT anthology releasing from Roc Books in December of this year.  So, boots seem to be a bit of a theme (just check this cover):

Kicking_It

Some extra loud shout outs to the following authors for their HUGE recent achievements:

Rachel Caine for how amazingly the new Morganville Vampires novel FALL OF NIGHT is doing right out of the gate, ranking #4 in both the UK Children’s and UK Children’s Fiction lists and topping the Small Publishers’ Children’s chart.  It just came out on Tuesday here in the US, but I expect that we’ll have similar wonderful news here shortly.

N.K. Jemisin for the Locus Award nomination for Best Fantasy for THE KILLING MOON!

Jasmine Haynes for finaling in the Erotic category of the National Readers’ Choice Awards (winner to be announced at RWA National) with THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE!

Janet Mullany for finaling in the Golden Quill with her erotic novel HIDDEN PARADISE!

I’m so excited for you all.  You have no idea how difficult it is to type with fingers and toes crossed.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!
