It seems the days when I could count on things being quiet enough to post a leisurely blog are far behind me, so I’m a couple of days late posting my happy book birthdays for the week. Here are some great, great reads just out!

Kicking_It KICKING IT edited by Faith Hunter and Kalayna Price

This is am amazing urban fantasy anthology featuring, as the cover says, “All-New Tales of Murder, Magic, and Manalos”.  Okay, not all the boots are Manolos, but, hey, alliteration…what can you do?  Featured here are some of the very top names in urban fantasy…and me.  Awesome stories from Rachel Caine, Chloe Neill, Rob Thurman, Faith Hunter, Kalayna Price, Christina Henry, Chris Marie Green, Shannon K. Butcher and (last but least), me.  Really, seriously worth checking out!

nightmaster-150x237 NIGHTMASTER by Susan Krinard

Amanda Quick said, “Susan Krinard was born to write romance.”  I couldn’t agree more.  She’s won the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Contemporary New Reality, as well as many Readers’ Choice, PRISM and other awards for her paranormal romance.  NIGHTMASTER is the second in her exciting Nightsiders series for Harlequin’s Nocturne line (the first is DAYSIDER).

colton christmas rescue COLTON CHRISTMAS RESCUE by Beth Cornelison

Award-winning author Beth Cornelison’s latest release is in the very popular Coltons of Wyoming continuity series.

Cover copy:

Join the Coltons of Wyoming for a holiday showdown at Dead River Ranch

Deep undercover, Wyoming special agent Slade Kent comes to Dead River Ranch with only one thing in mind: justice. Bent on solving a string of recent crimes, as well as his father’s long-unsolved murder, he won’t let down his guard for anyone. Until beautiful heiress Amanda Colton and her baby are attacked. He’ll do anything to protect them…even put his heart on the line.

Amanda’s done with deception, but the irresistibly mysterious Slade draws her trust. When danger—and uncontained passion—spark, they must both put aside secrets and agendas for survival…and love?

Looking for more great reads?  GoodReads has announced their Best Books of 2013!  I’m particularly excited to have TWO authors on the Paranormal Fantasy list – the fab Chloe Neill and Faith Hunter!

Also, Amy Christine Parker and I recommended some Rebel Reads in our video Tuesday for the YA Rebels (see below).  And if you scroll below that, you’ll see a couple more of my Rebel Reads that I’d somehow neglected to send, but which are great recommendations for boys particularly: SUBJECT SEVEN by James A. Moore and PATIENT ZERO by Jonathan Maberry.  (Also, my 13 year old recommends Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan series, Kristen Simmons’s ARTICLE 5, and Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle.)

Virtual Tours

Crazed as I am, I had to post this week, if only to move the still of my make-up-less face farther down the blog queue.  Eek!  Sorry, sorry.  Hope I didn’t scare any small children. Or grown men, for that matter.

Anyway, jumping on quickly to make sure you all know about two really fabulous upcoming blog tours, complete with games and giveaways!  First, there’s the Crossroads Blog Tour from  October 20th -26th involving lots of great authors, including Molly Cochran, Amanda Ashby, Amy Christine Parker, Jackie Morse Kessler, Judith Graves, Joy Preble, Carrie Harris, Ty Drago and many others, including me!  a Rafflecopter giveaway

Then there’s the KICKING IT tour from November 18th to December 6th.  For those who haven’t already heard me shout it from the rafters, KICKING IT is a great urban fantasy anthology coming out in December with contributors: Faith Hunter, Rachel Caine, Chloe Neill, Rob Thurman, Kalayna Price, Christina Henry, Shannon K. Butcher, Chris Marie Green and again me.  There are going to be many wonderful prizes and, I’m sure, some surprises in the blog posts themselves.  Tune in for fun and games and maybe walk away with something to make your holidays bright.

So much to celebrate this week in addition to the latest book birthdays.

First, if you haven’t already heard me trumpet this (because I’m known for my subtlety), I have a bunch of my own new releases coming out this year, particularly in the Latter-Day Olympians series. The first book, BAD BLOOD, is already out from Samhain in all formats. The second, CRAZY IN THE BLOOD, is out in digital and will be released in trade paperback on July 2nd. That’s right, you could have it in time for reading over the July 4th long weekend! (No pressure, of course.) And if all that isn’t exciting enough, I recently received the final cover for book 3, RISE OF THE BLOOD, that I can share with you all. This one’s out in digital in September and print next year.

Now, I’d like to say that I look just this badass in a negotiation, but in all likelihood, I’m holding a cup of coffee and a telephone rather than purched upon a pedastal, but I do have the boots.  No, sadly, this isn’t me, but my heroine Tori Karacis, who has just enough gorgon blood to stop men in their tracks.  I love this pic because the model truly looks like she has the gorgon glare.  Talk about something that would come in handy in a negotiation!

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of boots (back a few sentences…there it is), I have a Latter-Day Olympians story coming out in the awesome KICKING IT anthology releasing from Roc Books in December of this year.  So, boots seem to be a bit of a theme (just check this cover):

Some extra loud shout outs to the following authors for their HUGE recent achievements:

Rachel Caine for how amazingly the new Morganville Vampires novel FALL OF NIGHT is doing right out of the gate, ranking #4 in both the UK Children’s and UK Children’s Fiction lists and topping the Small Publishers’ Children’s chart.  It just came out on Tuesday here in the US, but I expect that we’ll have similar wonderful news here shortly.

N.K. Jemisin for the Locus Award nomination for Best Fantasy for THE KILLING MOON!

Jasmine Haynes for finaling in the Erotic category of the National Readers’ Choice Awards (winner to be announced at RWA National) with THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE!

Janet Mullany for finaling in the Golden Quill with her erotic novel HIDDEN PARADISE!

I’m so excited for you all.  You have no idea how difficult it is to type with fingers and toes crossed.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!
